Los Angeles–based spec home developer Michael Mueller has an impressive celebrity client list that includes everyone from Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban to Nicolas Cage, Sharon Stone, and the late Johnny Carson.
The designer, who interned for Hodgetts + Fung and also studied under Frank Gehry, initially bought the land in 2003 for about $3.4 million. He says he was only able to make this dream home a reality after the 2008 financial crisis had passed. “I held on to the property by the skin of my teeth, waiting for the market to change,” he told The Wall Street Journal. It took two years to secure permits and five years to build.
A modern reinterpretation of glamorous Hollywood Regency architecture, this striking contemporary home designed by celebrity architect Michael Mueller is perched on a crest in the Hollywood Hills. Accessed via a private gated drive, the property was carved out of the hilltop to create the most impressive views in Los Angeles, sweeping across the skyline and mountains to the ocean. Designed for sophisticated entertaining, spaces flow effortlessly from one to the next, indoors and out. Balconies, glass walls, and multiple flat, lush lawns allow for enjoyment of the view. The master suite includes a lavish bath with a soaking tub and two showers and a dramatic two-story dressing room. Other highlights include a library, a fitness studio, a media room, en-suite bedrooms, a three-car showcase garage, an infinity-edge pool, and a rooftop Sky Lounge with a breathtaking panorama. The location is remarkably secluded, yet Sunset Drive and Beverly Hills are minutes away.
